The Arts Council of Wales has announced that the ongoing regeneration and transformation of Porthcawl’s much-loved Grand Pavilion is to receive an extra £1.4m boost in funding.

The Grade II listed venue has been confirmed as one of 40 sites located throughout Wales that will benefit from a share of an £8 million new investment programme into building and regeneration works.

Announcing the funding, Minister of Culture Jack Sergeant described the Grand Pavilion as a ‘community treasure’ and said it was “…One of 40 organisations who represent the beating heart of cultural life across every corner of Wales.”

“We are grateful to the Arts Council for Wales for this significant contribution towards the cost of our ambitious plans for the Grand Pavilion, especially as it follows the earlier announcement by Welsh Government of an additional £4m for the project. “The Grand Pavilion remains one of our most iconic landmark buildings, and the funding will support future phases of redevelopment work which will seek to preserve its cultural significance while expanding upon the services that it can provide for local people, making it a true community hub.”

Councillor Neelo Farr, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economic Development and Housing,

Following preparatory works completed by Pritchard’s Demolition and Severn Insulation Ltd, Bridgend County Borough Council and Awen Cultural Trust appointed Andrew Scott Ltd to undertake the essential restoration of the 92 year old building last July. Work began earlier this summer, and is expected to be completed by 2027.
