KIN + ILK have been recognised for their sustainability efforts and have become the first business in Cardiff to achieve the Green Key award.

Green Key is the fastest-growing eco-label awarded to more than 2,800 hospitality providers in 57 countries worldwide. In Wales, Green Key is operated by Keep Wales Tidy, who also manage the iconic Blue Flag programme.

    KIN+ILK said:

‘Environmental responsibility and sustainable operation is embedded in our brand and culture at KIN+ILK. Even so, embarking on the journey to the Green Key award at Pontcanna significantly increased our awareness of our environmental footprint including reduction in energy, water, waste and our recycling policy. We now turn off lights, focus on water usage, have reviewed our packaging and increased our commitment to a green balance sheet. We are proud to be the first business in Cardiff to be awarded Green Key’.

Businesses throughout the sector are eligible to apply for Green Key. This includes bed and breakfasts, hotels, self-catering accommodation, camp sites, conference centres, restaurants and attractions.

Lesley Jones, Chief Executive for Keep Wales Tidy said:

“We’d like to congratulate KIN + ILK on their success. We’ve seen mounting concern over recent months about the damage that’s being caused to our natural environment, so it’s important to recognise and celebrate Welsh businesses that are taking the lead on sustainability.

“Green Key provides an opportunity to put Wales on the map as a 21st century, sustainable destination. It’s reassuring to know that when you visit KIN + ILK, you’re visiting a place that is committed to caring for our environment.”
