Scream Time is back at Margam Country Park, and it’s bigger, bolder, and scarier than before. The event has quickly become a must-visit Halloween experience in south Wales, and after going again this year, we can see exactly why.
This is our second time visiting, and what we love most is that it’s not just a static attraction, it’s an immersive trail that takes you through part of the park itself. It’s a mix of creepy fun and eerie atmosphere, with plenty to see along the way.
For those who went last year, things have changed quite a bit. The biggest update is that more of the castle is now open to explore, including a maze. It’s a brilliant addition, it’s fascinating, slightly unsettling, and full of surprises around every corner. We’ll definitely be heading back to see it all again.
Now, we can’t go giving too much away (that would spoil the fun), but what’s great is how the event caters to all ages. Early evening sessions (Spooky Time) are more family-friendly and relaxed, while things get a little darker and more intense as the night goes on (Scream Time).
We arrived around 6:30pm, which turned out to be the perfect time. It meant we could take younger children along while still getting enough of the spooky atmosphere for the older ones. Once the clocks go back, you might find that a 5:30pm slot offers a similar experience, though it’s worth checking the timings before booking.
The experience starts at the bottom of the hill, where there’s a steady build-up to what’s to come. After check-in, visitors are reminded of the rules before stepping into the unknown. From there, the fun begins and without spoiling anything, there’s plenty that’ll make you jump, laugh, and maybe even scream.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you’ll need to find your way back to your car, which is easier said than done in the dark! But let’s just say that the fun isn’t over…
We haven’t yet been to Luminate, the light trail that also runs at Margam, but if Scream Time is anything to go by, that event is likely just as impressive. The park itself is the perfect setting, and the organisers clearly know how to make the most of its gothic charm.
The event, created by the team behind The Great British Food Festival and Luminate, features over 25 scare actors, each bringing the Sandman’s eerie world to life. For those after something tamer, Spooky Time offers a family trail with a lighter touch, where toys come to life instead of nightmares.
There’s also the Nightmare Carnival Village, complete with hot chocolate, marshmallows, themed street food, and rides for all ages. Just be wary of the clowns – they’re not all there for the funfair.
Event organiser Janine Maycock said, “Margam Country Park is the perfect location for Scream Time and Spooky Time. It has this incredible haunted history, a real gothic castle, and of course, the resident ghosts. We’re so excited to come back this year and have a chilling experience lined up.”
