A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued across Wales for Tuesday, 11 November, with forecasters warning of potential flooding and travel disruption.
The Met Office says the warning is in place from 7am until midnight, as heavy rain moves in from the west during the morning and becomes more persistent through the afternoon and evening.
Rainfall totals of 30 to 50mm are expected widely, with 60 to 80mm possible over south-facing hills. The downpours are likely to be accompanied by strong southerly winds, which could add to the disruption.
Communities across Wales, including Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Carmarthenshire and Powys, are expected to be affected.
What to expect
-
Possible flooding of homes and businesses
-
Spray and standing water on roads, making journeys longer and more difficult
-
Disruption to bus and train services
-
Some risk of power cuts and interruptions to other services
The Met Office warns that, with the ground already saturated from recent wet weather, conditions could worsen quickly, particularly during the evening commute. Motorists are being urged to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel and check road conditions before setting off.
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to prepare a flood plan and emergency kit, while households are encouraged to make sure they have torches, spare batteries and portable phone chargers in case of power cuts.
Although the rain is expected to ease later on Tuesday night, forecasters say there is a chance of further showers into Wednesday, and the warning may be extended if confidence grows in a wetter scenario.
The Met Office recommends staying up to date with the latest forecast and checking for updates as conditions develop.
