Games to Play Over Christmas with Family and Friends

From baking cookies to decorating the tree, there are so many things friends and families can do when they gather for Christmas. However, there’s always enough time to play some fun games and share a few unforgettable laughs that become part of the family’s festive traditions. But what are the best games to play with your loved ones over Christmas?

Card games are always a great choice. Whether you need a two-player game or something that more people can jump into, they’re easy to set up and perfect for filling those cosy Christmas hours. The classics include rummy, whist, and bridge, with each guaranteed to keep everyone entertained. They don’t require much more than a deck of cards and a table that everyone can gather around.

If you prefer casino-style games like poker, they can also be played online, where the suspense and fun are just the same as when you’re playing with physical cards. There are platforms designed for British players that offer virtual versions of all popular casino card games, as well as other games of chance like slots and roulette, for those who enjoy something a little different. You and your loved ones can join forces and enjoy these casino-style games together.

Going back to card games, classic games aren’t the only option you and your loved ones have this Christmas. Modern favourites have become just as popular, especially those that have been designed to spark a bit of wit and bold humour. Games like Cards Against Humanity, for example, have the potential to turn an ordinary evening into a hilarious one. In this game, every round delivers unexpected combinations and plenty of laughter, which is exactly what people want during the holiday season.

When it comes to board games, the possibilities are also endless. Almost every Welsh household has a Monopoly set lying somewhere, and Christmas is the perfect time to dust it off and dive into a marathon session with your friends and family. More modern options include those such as Catan. The game involves gathering resource cards, trading them, and collecting enough points to win. Another popular modern board game that often makes an appearance during the festive season is Ticket to Ride, a railway-route building game that has spawned numerous spin-offs. Both of these games, as well as other modern options, make a great Christmas gift, too. So, if you don’t know what to get someone this year, a thoughtfully chosen board game could be the perfect present.

Not all games that you can play with your friends and family this Christmas require a setup. As long as you have a pen and paper and a willingness to be silly, you can play classics like Charades or Pictionary. Both options offer bursts of energy, especially when there’s a small prize prepared for the winning team. For something more relaxed, you can play a trivia game based on anything you want. If you want a holiday-themed quiz, you can prepare questions about popular Christmas movies or traditions.

There are some Christmas-themed games that get everyone moving. You can plan a scavenger hunt and hide festive-themed clues around the house. The clues will lead players to a final prize that can be anything you decide.

In this article, we list just some of the games that are commonly played in Welsh households during the holiday season. It’s now up to you to choose the ones you and those closest to you will enjoy the most. Regardless of which options you decide to go with, the most important part is to spend quality time with your loved ones and create memories that will last long after the holiday season ends.
