Two people have been convicted of the murder of Kamran Aman in Barry.
Police were called to a report of stabbing in Barry Road just before midnight on Monday, June 30.
Father-of-one Kamran died, and a murder investigation was launched.
Two males, aged 16 and 17, from Llantwit Major, were arrested nearby within minutes of a 999 call being made to South Wales Police.
They pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder.
Following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court, they have this week been found guilty.
Sentencing will take place on February 20.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Kath Barry, from South Wales Police, said:
“Kamran was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He was a popular and well-liked member of his community.
“Kamran was simply delivering shopping to his elderly mother when this unprovoked attack, by two people unknown to him, took place.
“Kamran did nothing whatsoever to warrant this.
“The violence could never have been foreseen and was made even more shocking by the abhorrent racist abuse used before, during and after, all captured on video footage.
“Within a matter of minutes, the lives of Kamran’s family changed forever, and they are still trying to comprehend how this could possibly have happened, particularly outside the house they have called home for almost 20 years.
“They have behaved with dignity and remarkable composure during the proceedings, despite having to listen to the unbearable details of his death.
“On behalf of South Wales Police, I thank the residents of Barry Road who bravely tried to save Kamran’s life on the night he was attacked and provided valuable witness accounts which were instrumental in securing today’s convictions.
“I would also like to acknowledge the understanding of the local community, and specifically the Muslim Community of Barry, while they waited patiently for the facts of the case to be heard at court.
“Nothing will fill the void in the lives of those who loved Kamran and have suffered the heartbreak of losing him in the most devastating circumstances.
“We welcome the convictions at court today and while we hope that in time Kamran’s family can rebuild their lives, we know he will always be in their thoughts.”
A tribute from Khaleela, Kamran’s wife:
“Kaman would light up a room with his larger-than-life personality. He had a big heart and was always going out of his way to help others; making sure everyone else was okay.
“He was kind to everyone he met, and he was someone you could rely on in times of needs. Never once did he let me down.
“Meeting Kamran will always remain one of the most beautiful things that ever happened to me.
“He was more than just a husband; He was my best friend and my soulmate.
“If someone asked me to describe Kamran in three words, I would say loyal, loving and compassionate.
“Loyal because he was a faithful husband who showed dedication to me and supported me and stood by me through all my challenges as he would for other members of his family and friends.
“Loving, he was big hearted and affectionate. He would show warmth not just through his words but through his actions. Kamran was devoted to his family and the people he cared for. His soul was pure; He was such a clean-hearted man.
“Compassionate because Kamran would feel people’s pain and struggles as though they were his own. He was always going out of his way to help others and the people he cared about most without ever expected anything back.
“He was a loving father to a child who is now broken and stripped of his love, care and protection. Her hero, the person she adores and looked up to, no longer here.
“She will grow up without a father’s loving and comforting hands. Life for us will never be the same without Kamra. There is a hole in our heart that can never be filled; A pain that will never go away.
“Without Kamran we are incomplete. The day he died, a part of us died with him.”
A tribute from Kamran’s mum Shenaz:
“In the name of Allah, the most gracious and merciful. Peace and blessings be upon you all.
“I have lost my lovely son Kamran who gave me so much joy, support, and peace.
“The night it happened Kamran had come to see me, to check I was okay.
“But then I heard shouting outside. Little did I know this would be my own Kamran. When I looked outside, I saw him on the floor lifeless. The grief I feel as a mother is unimaginable.
“It still pains me that I was unable to hold him, be near him, at the time he needed me the most.
“Even in his last minutes on earth he was still thinking of me when he told a neighbour not to inform me. That’s how much he loved me.
“Oh Allah give my son paradise. He has returned to you; he belongs to you.
“Bless his wife and bless his daughter who will grow up without the shade of a father looking over her.
“This is my prayer always.
“Kamran also grew up without the shade of his father who sadly passed away when Kamran was 6 years old. How ironic that Kamran has also departed this world leaving his daughter without a father.
A family statement:
“Indeed, we belong to Allah and to him we shall return.
“Our hearts tremble with grief and outrage as we honour the memory of Kamran Aman a beloved son, a devoted husband, a loving father and a loyal friend.
“Kamran’s life was taken in a brutal senseless racist attack. He was not just taken; he was taken violently. He was not just lost; he was robbed from those who loved him the most.
“What makes his pain even deeper is that this horrific attack carried a hateful racial element leaving us wounded not only by the violence itself but by the fact account was targeted because of who he was.
“No family or loved one should ever bear such a burden.
“His loss is not just a moment of grief it is heartbreak, disbelief, anger and a wound that will never close.
“But in the midst of this devastation the family turned to Allah the one who sees, who knows, who will bring justice.
“May Allah replace his final moments of suffering with eternal peace.
“May Allah envelope you in a mercy Kamran Aman and reunite us with you, in a place where no hatred or violence can never touch us again. Amen.”
