Power banks are incredibly useful, especially when you’re travelling or going about your day out of the house and you know you need your phone to retain charge. However, finding one in the sea of options can be tricky, especially when it comes to online shopping. This article explains how a power bank works, which are the most trusted brands, and, more specifically, which are the best power banks, before outlining how to find the best power bank, charger, or batteries online.

How does a power bank work?

A power bank transfers energy that it processes from an external power source into energy that can be transmitted into much smaller devices, like a phone or headphones. Essentially, the power bank is charged when connected to a stronger power source, such as a wall socket. The incoming electrical current from this source is processed by the control circuit, which converts the energy into chemical energy. As this happens, lithium-ion particles move between the positive and negative electrodes, meaning they stay charged and stored inside the device.

When you charge something else with the power bank, the energy is transferred to that device. The control circuit ensures that the energy stored can be delivered at a controlled rate, preventing overheating or damage to anything it charges. This process happens because the lithium ions move back toward the positive electrode so that the chemical energy is converted back into electrical energy.

What are the best brands of power banks?

There are many brands of power banks that people depend on, but the top rated brands that produce power banks include:

    • Varta is best known for its batteries, but it also produces a range of high-quality power banks in different sizes and with varying storage capacities. They are long-lasting, have great safety features and are stylish.
    • GP is a brand that focuses on sustainability, producing rechargeable batteries and making its products at least in part from recycled materials.
    • Anker is famously durable, versatile, quick-charging and safe to use with a range of devices.
    • Iniu power banks are dense and compact, making them stylish and also great for travelling.

What are the best power banks?

The best power bank, more specifically, will depend slightly on your personal needs. For example, some models may differ in size or style, making them more or less preferable to you.

Here are some examples of well-rated and loved power banks that provide a bit of range:

    • GP powerbank
    • Varta MAG power bank
    • Varta Power Bank Energy
    • Varta Wireless Power Bank
    • Anker power bank Powercore
    • Inui power bank P41-E2

How to shop for a power bank online

Shopping online can be intimidating, but once you know where to look, it is incredibly simple. The first thing to do is to look for a reliable and trusted company that supplies or specialises in chargers or batteries, as they will have the most knowledge about what would work best for you and they will supply the biggest range of high-quality products.

Next, you want to have either a board or a specific area you want to look in. For example, if you know you want a power bank but aren’t yet sure which is best for you, look for a website category titled ‘power banks’ or ‘phone chargers’ to see their full range. Alternatively, if you know exactly what you want, then you can search directly on their site: ‘Varta MAG power bank’ (e.g.).

Then you’re good to go! Simply fill in your address and details and purchase whichever one is best for you.
