Newport City Council has approved draft proposals for changes to some community boundaries following a public consultation and consideration of all the responses.
A further consultation has begun to get feedback on the proposals as part of the comprehensive and legally required review.

Newport has 21 city council wards but within these are boundaries for 36 community areas.

While only some of these areas are represented by community councils everyone in the city lives within a community area.

The review is aimed at making sure boundaries are in the right place for elections in the future.

You can find full details of the proposed changes and the reasons for them on the Newport Council website as well as information on how to take part in the latest consultation. It closes at midnight on 22 March.

Paper copies of the consultation will also be available at the Civic Centre, Newport Central Library, Rogerstone Community Centre, Ringland Community Centre and Caerleon Museum during opening hours.

The council has a legal duty to review the community arrangements every 12 years and report back to the Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru. Its aim is to ensure communities reflect local identities for effective local government.

Final recommendations are due to be made in July this year with any confirmed changes in place for the local elections in 2027.
