Wales is set for a spell of wet and unsettled weather, with heavy rain, blustery showers and the risk of thunder over the coming days.

According to the Met Office, today will begin cloudy with outbreaks of rain, particularly heavy over higher ground before clearing eastwards through the morning.

Showers will then turn heavy and more widespread, with the chance of hail and thunder in places. Despite the unsettled conditions, it will feel milder than recent days, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 12°C.

Tonight, heavy showers are expected to ease during the evening before cloud thickens again, bringing further spells of rain overnight. These are likely to clear by dawn. It will remain breezy but mild, with temperatures staying around 8°C.

Saturday is forecast to start cloudy with patchy drizzle and the odd brighter spell. However, more persistent and occasionally heavy rain is expected to move in during the afternoon. It will be breezy and very mild, with highs of 13°C.

Looking ahead to Sunday through to Tuesday, the changeable pattern is set to continue. Spells of rain and showers are expected, although there will be some drier intervals. Conditions will often be cloudy, with strong winds at times and temperatures remaining very mild for the time of year.

Motorists are being advised to take care on the roads during heavier downpours, particularly in areas prone to surface water.
