Wales is set for a mostly cloudy start to the week, with brighter spells developing later before more changeable and unsettled weather arrives from midweek, according to the Met Office.

Monday will begin on a grey and cloudy note across much of the country, with showery outbreaks of rain moving through during the morning. Conditions are expected to improve slightly through the afternoon, particularly across eastern areas where some hazy sunshine may break through the cloud. Temperatures will remain close to the seasonal average, with highs reaching around 12°C.

The cloud is expected to linger into Monday night, although there may be a few breaks at times. Further showery rain is possible overnight, with temperatures falling to a minimum of around 3°C.

Tuesday will again start cloudy for many parts of Wales, with areas of patchy drizzle most likely across the east. However, the cloud should gradually lift and break up through the day, allowing some sunny spells to develop. Conditions are expected to turn wetter and windier later in the day as another system moves in. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach around 11°C.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, the Met Office says the weather will become increasingly changeable from Wednesday onwards.

Showers and longer spells of rain are expected at times, although there will also be some brighter intervals with sunny spells. Temperatures will stay close to average for the time of year initially but are expected to turn colder by Friday. Winds may also become stronger at times towards the end of the week.
