Rhondda Heritage Park Museum has received a major boost after being awarded the respected Visit Wales Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme accreditation.
The accreditation recognises the museum’s high quality visitor experience and commitment to maintaining strong standards across all aspects of its operation.
The Visit Wales Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme assesses attractions across Wales based on factors including the welcome offered to visitors, interpretation, cleanliness, catering, retail facilities and the overall visitor journey.
A nationally significant attraction
Rhondda Heritage Park Museum continues to grow as one of Wales’ most engaging heritage attractions. Visitors travel from across the UK and around the world to experience the Black Gold Experience Underground Guided Tour, where former miners lead groups underground and share powerful first hand stories about life in the Rhondda coalfield.
Above ground, interactive exhibitions help bring the region’s mining history to life through digital displays and original artefacts connected to the coal industry.
A popular venue for events
The museum also hosts a busy programme of events throughout the year. Activities range from community car boot sales and research groups to large family events such as the Easter Egg-stravaganza and the popular Santa’s Toy Mine experience.
Its café, gift shop, educational workshops and guided tours also make it a popular destination for school trips and organised tourist groups.
New exhibitions planned
Looking ahead, the museum is preparing to introduce major new exhibition developments in 2026. These will expand the site’s storytelling, digital interpretation and immersive experiences, further strengthening its role as a leading cultural and educational destination in South Wales.
