A new waterfront café-bar is set to open in Barry next month, bringing a fresh venue to a long-unused seafront site.

Loungers has confirmed that Morio Lounge will open on Wednesday, May 13 at Nell’s Point, taking over the former toilet block which has been unoccupied for several years.

Located on Whitmore Bay, the new venue will operate as a laid-back café-bar serving food and drinks from morning through to evening, seven days a week.

The menu will cater to a wide range of tastes, including gluten-free and vegan options, while the venue itself is designed to be welcoming for all ages. Visitors can expect board games, toys for children and facilities that also cater for dog owners.

Loungers began in 2002, founded by three friends, Dave Reid, Alex Reilley and Jake Bishop, who wanted to create a relaxed, community-focused space after years working in the restaurant and bar industry. Starting out in an empty optician’s in Bedminster, the brand has since grown significantly, with more than 250 Lounges now operating across the UK.

The business has built its reputation on offering friendly service, quality ingredients and a comfortable, home-like atmosphere where people can meet, eat and unwind throughout the day.

The opening of Morio Lounge marks a significant transformation for the prominent Barry Island location and is expected to be a popular addition for both locals and visitors heading to the waterfront.
