Wet start before brighter skies for Wales as weekend weather improves

Wales is set for a mixed but improving weekend of weather, with rain and strong winds clearing to brighter conditions and sunshine for many by Sunday, according to the Met Office.

A band of wet and rather windy weather is expected to move eastwards across the country on Friday morning, bringing a damp and blustery start to the day. However, conditions will steadily improve through the afternoon, with brighter skies developing and just the chance of a few isolated showers later on. Temperatures are expected to reach highs of around 15°C, with winds easing as the day goes on.

Overnight, a few showers may linger in parts of north and west Wales, but most areas will stay dry with clear spells. Lighter winds could allow some fog patches to form by morning, although it is expected to remain frost-free with temperatures dropping to around 6°C.

Saturday will bring a fresher feel, with a mix of sunshine and scattered, mostly light showers. A west to northwesterly breeze will keep temperatures slightly lower, with highs of around 14°C, although it should feel pleasant in the sunshine.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the outlook becomes more settled. After a chilly start, much of Wales is expected to stay dry with light winds and sunny spells, offering the best conditions of the weekend for those planning to get outdoors.

The improving trend is set to continue into early next week, with both Sunday and Monday expected to remain largely dry and calm. By Tuesday, a cooler northeasterly wind is likely to bring increased cloud cover and the possibility of a few showers.

Forecasters say the shift from unsettled to more settled conditions means a brighter end to the weekend, despite a breezy and wet start.
