South Wales Police is appealing for information following a number of deliberate fires on Gower commons which officers say are causing damage to protected wildlife and habitats.
The Gower Neighbourhood Policing Team is urging anyone with information about the recent fires to come forward.
PC Simon Chadwick said: “The burning season ended in March, meaning that fires which have been started recently are too late in the year and are therefore having an impact on the wildlife including nesting birds, lizards, snakes and small mammals.
“Some of the areas on the commons that have been burnt are sites of special scientific interests (SSSIs ) and are protected under law. These areas include rare flowers, plants and animal species.”
Police are asking anyone with information to report it anonymously through Crimestoppers by calling 08000 555 111.
