South Wales Police has issued warnings following reports of off-road motorcycles being ridden anti-socially on Cefn Bryn Common in Gower.
Police say they have received several recent complaints from concerned residents about off-road bikes being used on the popular ridge, which stretches for around five miles and is known locally as the “backbone of Gower”.
Cefn Bryn is home to the well-known Neolithic monument Arthur’s Stone and includes areas protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
PC Chadwick from the Gower Neighbourhood Policing Team said information provided by members of the public had helped officers identify those involved.
As a result, warnings were issued under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.
Under the legislation, police officers and Police Community Support Officers can issue warnings to people using off-road motorcycles in an anti-social manner. If a further offence takes place within a 12-month period, the vehicle can be seized.
The warning applies to both the rider and the vehicle itself, meaning action can still be taken if somebody else uses the same bike anti-socially.
South Wales Police is encouraging residents to continue reporting incidents involving off-road motorcycles.
Anyone witnessing nuisance or anti-social riding is asked to contact police via 101 or through the online reporting system, providing as much detail as possible including the time, location, description of the bike and any information about the rider if known.
