Monmouthshire County Council has committed to bringing forward a scheme to complete a vital section of road connecting Magor with the wider area.

The commitment follows a motion brought to council calling for urgent steps to complete the final section of the estate road linking the Rockfield Farm development with Vinegar Hill.

Speaking in response to the motion, Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources, Cllr Ben Callard, said: “We know how important it is for people to feel connected, not just by roads, but as part of a community. Completing this final section will make a real, practical difference to residents in Magor, making everyday journeys easier and bringing different parts of the area together.

“We also recognise the frustration this delay may have caused and we are committed to putting it right, while learning from the situation to improve how we deliver developments in the future. Finishing the road will benefit both residents and the wider area, supporting future opportunities and helping this community to thrive.”

While much of the development is now complete, one important stretch of road remains unfinished. Members recognised the impact this has had on local journeys and the wider road network.

Significant progress has already been made, including the continuation of the road delivered by Monmouthshire Housing Association as part of its recent housing development. The remaining section sits on land owned by the council, with planning consent for future employment use.

Cllr Callard will now bring forward proposals to Cabinet to construct this final stretch, helping to fully open the site and strengthen connections for residents and businesses.
