A man from Swansea has been jailed after admitting a range of offences including intending to supply Class A drugs.
27-year-old Zubair Mehdi, from Mayhill, was spotted by an unmarked police car on mobile patrol entering the driver’s seat of a vehicle when the officer knew him to not have a substantive licence or insurance.
While Mehdi initially complied during his arrest, he then attempted to barge past officers to escape, damaging an officer’s radio in the process. He was nonetheless apprehended and a quantity of white powder was found under the driver’s seat of his vehicle when searched.
Mehdi pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine, driving whilst disqualified, criminal damage to property, using a motor vehicle without third-party insurance, and resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.
He has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Detective Inspector Richard George said:
“Zubair Mehdi clearly has a total disregard for the law and even when his licence was removed, he decided that he was just going to get behind the wheel anyway.
“That kind of contempt for doing the right thing is what has now landed him with a significant spell in prison. He will now be wishing he had learned his lesson before it came to this.”
