Recovery work is continuing in Gwaelod-y-Garth following the recent flooding, with Cardiff Council confirming that one road remains closed while significant repairs and safety assessments are carried out.
Council officers from Highways, Flood Risk Management, Transport, Waste Management and Housing worked alongside the emergency services and partner agencies throughout Thursday afternoon and evening to support the response and assist residents.
The flooding affected 15 properties in the area, with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service evacuating 13 properties on Thursday.
Housing officers have been supporting those affected, with overnight accommodation arranged for one family and further support being provided to another family. Other affected households have made their own private arrangements.
Highways and cleansing teams have also been clearing roads and removing debris where it has been safe to do so. However, the flooding caused significant damage to roads, with mud, silt and other debris blocking access in places, while concerns remain over the stability of surrounding embankments.
Residents have also been advised not to enter local rivers or allow dogs to swim in the water due to the possibility of river pollution while investigations continue.
Work to clear the final section of Main Road affected by flood debris was completed on Saturday, allowing the road to fully reopen.
However, Heol Goch, beyond the junction with Clos Goch when travelling out of Pentyrch, remains closed.
Initial inspections found significant damage to the road surface, which will require repairs before it can reopen. The bank alongside the road is also undergoing independent assessment and must be certified as safe before any decision is made to reopen the route.
In an update issued on Sunday, Cardiff Council confirmed that Heol Goch remains closed to all vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, with motorists advised to follow the signed diversion route.
Street cleansing vehicles continue to work in the area, with drainage gullies being fully cleared before the next phase of the clean-up begins. This will include jet washing roads and pavements affected by the flooding to ensure they are as clean and safe as possible for public use.
