    Inspired to take up a new challenge in 2019? There are plenty of incredible walks, runs and challenges to get involved in this year in Wales.

    We have compiled a list of upcoming running and walking events across Wales in 2019, all of which offer a range of breathtaking views and great atmosphere.

    Our selection covers a range of distances for all abilities, everything from 5k and 10ks to a full marathon. Fun runs and challenges offer something a little different, and are great for entering as a group of friends or work colleagues. Why not raise money for a well-deserving charity or cause whilst you’re at it too!

     

    The Cardiff 5k and 10k Winter Warmer Run: 3 February

    Join this famous 10K run around Bute Park this year for your chance to support the charity Shelter. This is a fantastic challenge to take part in and support a good cause. For more information and to enter click here.

    Be Gung Ho: 20th April

    The world’s biggest inflatable 5k run returns to Wales with an event in Swansea. The Be Gung Ho will take place at Singleton Park and is suitable for veteran athletes and first-time runners alike. For something a bit different from your traditional walk, including taking on huge slides to enormous spiky balls, you will want to check this out. Book here.

     

     

    Newport Wales Marathon: 5th May

    The Newport Wales Marathon is one of the UK’s flattest marathon’s. Runners start the 26.2-mile route at Newport’s beautiful waterfront, offering iconic landmarks, coastal wildlife and picturesque medieval villages. This marathon offers both a marathon, 10K distance and a family run. Choose your distance here.

    Slateman Triathlon: 18th May

    The Slateman Marathon welcomes runners once again on the 18th May with its unique triathlon set in Snowdonia National Park and the Slateman quarry. This offers both spectacular scenery and the atmosphere to match. Runners have a choice of 0.4Km, 1Km, 1.4Km and 2Km distances. Book here.

    Snowdonia Half Marathon: 19th May

    The 8th Snowdonia Half Marathon will take place in the Snowdonia National Park. Runners will start and finish in the village of Llanrwst, witnessing the region’s beauty through surrounding mountains, hidden valleys and glacial lakes. If you are ready to experience one of the UK’s toughest half marathon’s, book here.

    Man v Horse Marathon: 8th June

    Take on horses and their riders over a challenging 22-mile course which includes several steep inclines and declines. Find out more here about this unique running experience.

    Drover’s Walk: 15th June 

    This walk follows in the footsteps of the old Drovers who passed through the Welsh Mountains with their cattle to the market towns of England. There are both 5 and 8 mile walks to choose from; at £5 and £8 entry cost. Participants can enter here.

    Cardiff Triathlon: 22nd-23rd June

    This year’s Cardiff Triathlon is expected to be the biggest ever. The route starts with a swim in Cardiff Bay, followed by a fast cycle route and rounded off with an impressive run along the Cardiff Bay barrage. This is your chance to take on the route’s Olympic, sprint and mini sprint distances. You can find out more at www.alwaysaimhighevents.com.

    Swansea Half Marathon: 24th June

    The Swansea Half Marathon returns for its 6th year in 2019, on the 24th of June, offering a 6-mile race along the stunning Welsh coastline. Join up to other 10,000 runners for this event, in what is described as Wales’ best and biggest half marathon. Book your place here.

    International Snowdon Race: 20th July

    For this event, runners need to have had previous mountain running experience or to have completed a mountain race. If you are up to the challenge, however, this is a fantastic experience. The 10-mile route starts at Padarn Park, Llanberis and takes runners to the summit of Snowden mountain. Registration opens for runners on the 15th March 2019 here.

    Kidney Wales Cardiff 10K & Family 2K: 1st September

    The cities longest running road race returns again on the 1st September. Up to 10,000 runners will have another chance to take on taking on the new flat and fast City Centre route.  Entries are now open at www.cardiff10k.cymru

    Sandman Triathlon: 14-15th September 

    The iconic Sandman Triathlon will take place once again at Newborough Forest in Anglesey, within an exclusive area adjacent to the beautiful Llanddwyn Beach. The triathlon comprises of four distances, the Legend 72.4, Savage, Full and Sprint. Entries are now open here.

     

    Cardiff Half Marathon: 6th October

    The Cardiff Half Marathon takes runners around some of the Welsh Capitol’s most iconic landmarks, starting at Cardiff Castle and finishing at the city’s Civic Centre. This has grown to be the UK’s second largest half marathon, Wales’ largest road race and Wales’ largest multi-charity fundraising event.
