Detectives are appealing for information after a small flammable device was reportedly placed inside a piece of machinery in Coedpoeth.
Police are investigating the vehicle interference, which happened at a site on Talwrn Road on Thursday, September 10.
No injuries were reported following the incident and the device has since been seized.
Detective Inspector Claire Roberts of eastern CID said: “Had the device detonated, someone could have been seriously injured or killed.
“We are taking this matter seriously and ask anyone with information, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact police.
“Visible increased patrols are taking place in the area for reassurance purposes.”
Police are asking anyone with information about the vehicle interference to contact them on 101 or via the police website, quoting reference number 26000742449.
Information can also be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers.
