The Riverfront is getting into the Halloween spirit this October with a packed programme of gothic theatre, chilling storytelling, spooky cinema, live music and family activities.
Audiences of all ages will be able to enjoy events throughout the month, ranging from vampire legends and folk horror to Halloween crafts and family-friendly films.
The Halloween programme gets underway on Friday, October 2 with Dracula’s Guest, presented by Brother Wolf Presents and adapted from the works of Bram Stoker.
The award-winning production explores the dark heart of Victorian horror, introducing audiences to an immortal Count Dracula haunted by centuries of memories and driven by a desire to torment those who enter his domain.
It promises an evening filled with suspense and psychological terror for those looking to start Halloween month with a classic gothic tale.
Acclaimed storyteller Daniel Morden will then bring Folk Horror Stories to The Riverfront on Thursday, October 15.
Described as one of the UK’s leading storytellers, Morden will explore the strange and unsettling world of folk horror, looking at ancient folklore and fairytales and humanity’s fragile relationship with the natural world.
The atmospheric evening will feature stories of shapeshifters, dangerous pacts and restless spirits.
The following evening, Friday, October 16, Halloween in Concert will bring a very different kind of spooky entertainment to the venue.
Featuring a cast, live band, visuals and state-of-the-art production, the concert will bring together some of the best-known Halloween songs.
The soundtrack for the evening will include Monster Mash, The Time Warp, Thriller, Hungry Like the Wolf and Bat Out of Hell.
Film fans are also being catered for, with The Riverfront’s cinema hosting a selection of spooky screenings throughout October and tickets starting from £3.50.
The programme ranges from psychological horror to family favourites, with screenings of The Silence of the Lambs, The Others, Hotel Transylvania and Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom.
Younger visitors will also have the opportunity to get creative during a series of Halloween activities.
A Spooky Felt Decorations Workshop for children aged nine to 12 will teach participants simple sewing techniques as they create their own Halloween-themed decorations. All materials will be provided and no previous experience is necessary.
Children aged seven to 11 can also take part in the Spooky Crafty Cinema Club, offering a full day of Halloween entertainment combining a spooky film screening with games, a lunch break and themed arts and crafts.
With theatre, storytelling, live music, cinema and children’s activities all on the programme, The Riverfront’s Halloween season will offer a mix of scares and family fun throughout October.
