Parents and carers of children due to start reception class in September 2027 can now apply for a primary school place in Powys.

Applications opened on Thursday 1 October 2026 and close on Friday 15 January 2027.

Children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 are eligible to apply for a place starting in September 2027. Applications can be submitted online via the council’s website, which also has information about different schools, catchment areas, home-to-school transport and admissions arrangements.

Cllr James Gibson-Watt, Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, said: “Starting school is a significant step for children and their families. We want to make the admissions process as straightforward as possible and would encourage parents and carers to submit their application early. Taking a few minutes to apply now can help avoid any last-minute pressure as the deadline approaches.”

Parents and carers will receive the results of their application on Friday 16 April 2027.

Further information and application details are available on the council’s website.
