Parts of Wales could see temperatures reach 20°C over the coming days, with bright and sunny spells expected before more unsettled weather returns.

The Met Office forecast for Wales says Friday will bring bright spells at times across eastern and southeastern areas, where only the odd light shower is expected.

Conditions will be cloudier further north and west, with some showery rain developing.

It will also be windy, particularly around exposed western coasts and in and around showers. Despite the mixed conditions, temperatures could reach a maximum of 20°C.

Friday night will see a band of showery rain move steadily south and east across Wales, with some heavy bursts possible.

Clearer and chillier conditions will develop in the northwest as winds ease, while elsewhere it will remain relatively mild. Overnight temperatures could fall to around 8°C.

Saturday is expected to bring an improvement for much of the country.

Showery rain will clear southeastwards during the morning, leaving behind a fine day with plenty of sunshine.

Temperatures will remain above average for the time of year, with another maximum of 20°C forecast.

Conditions will become cloudier again on Sunday, with the possibility of the odd spot of rain.

Cloud is then expected to persist into Monday, accompanied by patchy rain and drizzle.

More frequent showers are forecast to develop on Tuesday, although temperatures are expected to remain quite mild throughout the period.
