Newport law firm Harding Evans has acquired Merrils Ede, a solicitors’ practice based in Penarth, giving it its first office in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Merrils Ede, which was founded in 1865, has a longstanding private client practice. Its six-strong team will transfer to Harding Evans as part of the deal.
The acquisition takes Harding Evans to three offices: its headquarters in Newport, its office in Whitchurch, Cardiff, and the new office on Herbert Terrace in Penarth.
Harding Evans says it will offer its full range of legal services from the town centre office to individuals and businesses across Penarth and the wider Vale of Glamorgan.
Ken Thomas, Chairman of Harding Evans, said: “This is an exciting step forward for Harding Evans. Following a sustained period of organic growth, the acquisition strengthens our market presence and bolsters our position as a leading regional firm.
“The right location is only part of the equation: any acquisition must also share our values and approach. That alignment is essential to integrating teams smoothly and maintaining the high standard of service clients expect.
“Merrils Ede is a firm we have admired for some time and this acquisition brings together two very established firms. We are delighted to have completed the acquisition and look forward to welcoming the team to Harding Evans.”
Janet Tillyard, Managing Partner at Merrils Ede, added: “I am pleased to see the acquisition by Harding Evans reach fruition. This will allow us to provide a broader range of services to the loyal clientele we have here at Merrils Ede, so that we will be best placed to serve them going forward.”
