In a bid to promote Welsh produce to consumers outside of Wales, there will be a series of events in London and Manchester which will be the largest celebration yet of Welsh food and drink to be held on a UK level.

Welsh food and drink producers will be banging the drum across the UK and reinforcing the message that Welsh food and drink is among the best in the world in terms of quality and value.

In London there will be events at Borough Market and Paddington Station with opportunities to sample the creamiest cheese from Snowdonia, gooey Gower brownies, quality coffee from the heart of Carmarthenshire and world-class charcuterie from the Brecon Beacons.

Visitors to Borough Market between 28th February and March 1st will be immersed in Welsh food and drink as producers bring a taste of Wales to the popular food venue with food to go items as well as produce to take home.

As the gateway to Wales, Paddington Station will welcome a host of Welsh producers offering samples and nibbles for commuters on Wednesday February 27th. Rail travellers on GWR’s Swansea to Paddington service will be offered a Welsh cake with their Welsh Brew tea and coffee on St David’s Day itself.

Further north, Manchester Piccadilly station will be welcoming Welsh producers to its platforms on March 1st to showcase Welsh gins, the world’s best sea salt from Halen Môn and baked goods.

Retailers are also getting behind Welsh produce with a host of producers being invited to Waitrose, Co-op and Tesco head offices to promote the very best of Wales to staff.

Morrisons’ store in Wrexham will play host to a Welsh extravaganza on St David’s day with a range of Welsh producers and Hybu Cig Cymru (Meat Promotion Wales) offering samples to staff and customers.

These St David’s Day celebrations form part of the Welsh Government’s #ThisisWales #GwladGwlad campaign, ensuring Wales and its first-class produce are centre stage on St David’s Day.

Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths, said:

“Every year our St David’s Day celebrations get bigger and better and that is testament to the quality of Welsh food and drink produce coming from Wales. From cottage industry producers to large-scale manufacturers, we are producing food and drink that rivals some of the biggest and best brand names from all over the world. The fact that Welsh produce can now be found in the top restaurants across the globe is something we should be extremely proud of.

“With Brexit approaching we need to promote the Welsh brand as much as we can, so our food and drink producers strengthen their place in the market and ensure they can make a success of the challenges they face.”

Wales Week extends from 23 February to 9 March and Wales’ food and drink will be promoted extensively during this period.
