Jacqueline Whiteley from Machynlleth in Powys is set to turn daredevil to raise £500 for the charity Parkinson’s UK.

Jacqueline, who is in her 50’s and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in September 2018, is taking part in the Holyhead Breakwater Park Abseil on 9 June.   She will face her fears to descend a 150ft near-vertical rock-face and is now calling for others to sign-up and take part.

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition for which there is currently no cure and it affects 145,000 people in the UK including 7,692 in Wales.

Parkinson’s UK estimate that there are more than 40 symptoms of the condition.  As well as the most widely known symptom – tremor – these range from physical symptoms like muscle stiffness to depression, anxiety, hallucinations, memory problems and dementia, but Parkinson’s affects everyone differently.

    Jacqueline said:

“Since I was diagnosed the help and support I’ve received from Parkinson’s UK has been absolutely invaluable.

“The charity’s Local Adviser in the area and the Parkinson’s UK helpline have been amazing, and my Parkinson’s Nurse has been wonderful.

“I’ve used the charity’s online forum, website, and booklets to better understand and control of my condition and everyone I’ve come into contact with at Parkinson’s UK has been so approachable and passionate about their work.

“I want to give something back and this event is a chance for me to be an ambassador for Parkinson’s UK and for all who support this wonderful charity.  I truly hope that it inspires others to get involved.”
