A POPULAR sports centre has been given a makeover by creative Coleg Cambria students.

A group of the college’s Level 1 and Level 2 Painting and Decorating cohort helped to revamp Deeside Leisure Centre while on work experience.

They have been busy painting communal areas and function rooms at the Queensferry site and were rewarded with free passes to use the gym and ice-skating facilities.

Ian Hogg, Deputy Director of Curriculum for Construction at Cambria, said: “We would like to thank Deeside Leisure Centre for giving our students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a professional setting.

“They really worked hard to brighten up areas of the centre which will hopefully help to attract even more visitors ahead of the busy summer months.”

The venue is managed by Aura Leisure and Libraries, a not-for-profit organisation responsible for the maintenance of libraries and sports centres in Flintshire.

Lee Breeze, Centre Development Officer for Aura, said they are “honoured” to be working in partnership with Coleg Cambria.

“We are delighted about the work that has been carried out by the students, it is a very high standard and they are a credit, not just to themselves but also the college and their tutors,” said Mr Breeze.

“To be chosen by their tutors and the college to be a facility for the students to work in to support their learning and development is an honour.”

He added: “Aura Leisure and Libraries is here to make a difference not for profit, which has given us an opportunity to reinvest in community programmes such as free coaching sessions in Flintshire schools.

“We look forward to working closely with the college on future projects and growing our partnership further.”
