Nestled away in the heart of Whitchurch village in North Cardiff, you may easily overlook one of the best pizzerias in the city.

Pizzeria Villagio has been serving up authentic Italian dishes since 1986, and recently won the title of “Best Pizzeria” at the Welsh Italian Awards. They have also been shortlisted as a finalist in the “Best Italian” category at Wales’ Elite Awards.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome by the Palladino family and promptly shown to our seats.

However, a word to the wise, make sure you call ahead and book a table. This wasn’t the first time that we visited and we were caught off guard by the popularity of this place, leaving us starring at a takeaway menu instead – we learn’t our lesson and booked this time.

    Pizza Menu

With it being a pizzeria and all, we couldn’t resist ordering the speciality from the main menu, but there is a variety of homemade meals to choose from, not just pizza. Our daughter also ordered a spaghetti bolognese from the children’s menu (a personal favourite). In addition to the main menu and childrens’ options, Pizzeria Villagio also offers daily specials, which you can choose from.

The food arrived promptly fresh and hot to our table.

The pizza tasted absolutely delicious; a good size, not too thin but equally not too crispy.

The portion sizes were ample, making us regret the additional cheesy garlic bread that we had ordered on the side. It tasted soo good though…

Unfortunately, we didn’t have dessert on this occasion as we simply didn’t have enough room, so we will definitely be heading back soon to sample the fresh Italian delights that they had on offer.

They don’t just do good food either…

On selected evenings, they also provide live music for your entertainment whilst you dine – but be warned, tables will book up even quicker, so make sure you follow on Facebook to find out the next date ahead of time.
