A talented line-up of chefs will entertain and inform city centre shoppers this week (Sept 9-13).

They will offer inspiration, advice and guidance on cooking and entertaining with seafood.

Their programme of free events will take place in the heart of the city, at the Swansea Council-run Swansea Market.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “This is a great opportunity for the people of Swansea to enjoy the market, the city centre and the experience of high-quality professional chefs.

“It’s a lovely event to have in the city and adds to the rich range of activities going on in this year, our 50th anniversary as a city.”

Chefs due to appear include Shane Davies-Nilsson, of Gower College Swansea, Imran Nathoo, of Kitchen Clonc, and Martin Davies, of north Gower’s Britannia Inn. Others include Nerys Howells and Sian Day.

[/aoa]Dishes set to be highlighted include crab salad on a tapioca crisp with foraged sea herbs, mackerel tacos, local fish pie, Gower salt and pepper cockle popcorn and cockle chowder with laverbread sourdough.

All seafood and other ingredients will be locally sourced and available at the market.

The seafood cookery demonstrations are due to take place in the market every day from September 9-13 from noon-2pm. Seating will be provided for those who attend.

Compere will be Wales-based radio and TV presenter George Reed. Others present will include wine merchants Cheers, Radnor Preserves and Tourism Swansea Bay.

The audience will be able to sample the food and taste complementary wines. Free recipe cards will be handed out and visitors will be able to buy ingredients from market traders.

The Swansea Bay Fisheries Local Action Group (SBFLAG) is managed by Swansea Council. It operates across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend and Burry Port.

By 2020 it would like to see its community-led programme, which promotes and supports co-operation and partnership working, help deliver successful, sustainable, economically viable local fishing and associated industries, aware of the sector’s heritage and equipped to meet current and future challenges.

Partners include the Welsh Fishermen’s Association/South and West Wales Fishing Communities Ltd, Seafish Wales and the Swansea Port Health Services.

Private sector representation includes Tourism Swansea Bay, commercial fishermen, the Mumbles Development Trust, the Swansea Environment Forum, Salacia Marine and Fowey Shellfish.

Public sector representation includes Swansea Council, Neath Port Talbot Council, Bridgend Council, Carmarthenshire Council, Swansea Marina Management and Natural Resources Wales.
