Festive singers will add extra sparkle to Swansea’s city centre Christmas parade.
They will entertain city centre visitors at performance points in Castle Square and Kingsway Circle as they await the arrival of the parade on Sunday, November 17.
The acts are: the Rock Choir, the DVLA Tunes for Ty Olwen choir, Dancerama, Jermin Productions, Nataya and the Victorian Carollers.
They all accepted a Swansea Council invitation to entertain people looking forward to the parade which begins at 5pm.
Swansea’s 2019 Christmas Parade is due to head up Wind Street and High Street then down Orchard Street and along The Kingsway.
Parade participants will include local youth dance and theatre groups, bands, organisations with eye-catching floats, professional entertainers – and Santa.
Together, they will help deliver a Christmas performance and entertain the crowds.
The council’s special events team – behind successes such as the annual Wales Airshow and this month’s seafront fireworks – is organising the free event to usher in a busy festive season for shoppers, businesses, residents and visitors.
Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “The singers will bring special seasonal sounds to the parade – they’ll entertain the crowds and will help the parade become a memorable part the city’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
“I look forward to seeing and hearing them.”
Dancerama is an established award-winning performing arts school based in Llansamlet.
They have performed in London’s West End, on other major national stages and on TV. They performed at this year’s Wales Airshow in Swansea and at other Swansea 50 celebrations.
Dressed in Christmas costumes to help the parade celebrations, their pupils plan to perform their popular song This is Our City as well as Christmas classics and new single Christmas Twist.
Nataya is a 17-year-old Swansea girl who has appeared as a finalist on CBBC’s Got What it Takes? She is training at college and is aiming for a career in musical theatre.
Before the Christmas Parade, she plans to sing a variety of songs, including festive numbers.
Rock Choir is a pioneering contemporary UK choir with more than 30,000 members across 400 local communities.
It offers an inclusive experience with no auditions and no requirement to read music. It offers all ages an alternative experience to the traditional classical or community choir, introducing members to pop, rock and contemporary chart songs.
The parade’s two performance spaces in Castle Square and Kingsway Circle will be fronted by personalities from local radio stations Swansea Sound and The Wave. Santa will turn on the city centre Christmas lights as part of the parade at these locations.
The council’s main Christmas attractions include the annual Christmas Street Market, largely in Oxford Street from November 15, and Santa’s Grotto, in Oxford Street from November 16.
Waterfront Winterland, being delivered by Sayers Events and 11th Hour in partnership with the council, is due to take place on Museum Park from November 15 to January 5.
