Rapidly-growing self-storage giant Lock Stock are heading way out west to open their 18th storage park at Caernarfon this month.
The new facility on the town’s Cibyn Industrial Estate will offer space for over 150 units on a 1.1 acre site.
It confirms the Denbigh-based company as the UK’s biggest containerised self-storage company and gives them close to 3,000 units at their sites which extend from Holyhead on Anglesey along the North Wales coast down to Shrewsbury and Newtown in Powys.
The Caernarfon move follows the recent openings of storage parks on the Glendale Trading Estate at Sandycroft, adjoining Go Outdoors on River Lane, Saltney, and at Coleshill, Flint, alongside the A548 North Wales Coast road.
Lock Stock Commercial Manager Jeff Woods said: “The business continues to expand organically by responding to demand – our sites at Bangor and Llandudno Junction are very popular and it makes sense to extend our service along the North Wales Coast.
“We pride ourselves on the great service we offer, the convenience, the round-the-clock access and the security and believe this is why our existing sites are receiving more and more enquiries for storage space and we are reacting to meet that demand.
“We also look to see where the demand is coming from and if it is from somewhere we don’t already have a storage park as is the case with Caernarfon then we look at finding a suitable site.”
The Cibyn storage park is due to open in early January by which time it will have been resurfaced and equipped with an office, security fencing, lighting and cameras, and with keyless 24-hour access.
The storage units will be painted in Lock Stock’s distinctive dark green livery, fully insulated and watertight and the site layout will be computer designed to ensure ease of access.
They are all all eight foot high by eight foot wide but come in 10, 20 and 40 foot lengths with storage capacities ranging from 640 cubic feet to 2,560 cubic feet and Lock Stock are offering special half price rates for customers.
Most of the units are a by-product of the UK’s trade with China – most are Chinese-built and have made the 12,000-mile seven-week sea journey via the Suez Canal.
Jeff Woods added: “Many of our customers are people in the process of moving house who may need it on a flexible basis or for short-term use but increasingly we are seeing businesses, especially small businesses using them.
“They find them ideal for operating from because there are no business rates or service charges and with three different sizes of units they’re ideal whether people are looking to grow or to downsize.
“They can often operate from a storage unit, calling there to stock up in the morning before going out to jobs and that is one reason we plan our sites very carefully so that our tenants can easily access their units 24/7.”
The Caernarfon site will be added to Lock Stock’s existing storage parks at Holyhead, Bangor, Llandudno Junction and Rhyl on the North Wales Coast, on the Dee at Flint, Sandycroft and Saltney, and inland at the Colomendy Industrial Estate in Denbigh, Mold, Wrexham and Newtown in Powys, and at Oswestry and Shrewsbury in Shropshire.
