Armed forces charity Help for Heroes is urgently appealing for supporters in the Llanelli area to come forward and volunteer their time to raise vital funds for their life-changing services.

Community Recovery Manager for Wales & Hereford, Shelley Elgin said, “Our highly skilled team delivers holistic support to men and women whose lives have been changed by illness or injury during their military service. From 1-2-1 key worker advice, clinical liaison, and sports recovery to wellbeing and fellowship support, we provide tailored packages to enable those who have put their lives on the line for us, to live with renewed purpose once more.”

This Spring, veterans from across Wales will attend a residential Pathfinder Experience course at the charity’s Welsh base in Treforest, designed to inspire, enable and support those transitioning out of military service to plan for their future.  Ms Elgin adds, “We can only ensure our support is available to those who need it, thanks to the generosity of the public, and our volunteers are key to our fundraising activities. I would encourage anyone who can spare a few hours to get in touch and find out how they can help.”

The charity is currently recruiting volunteers for its annual Debenhams National Collection weekend on 28-29 March, and Llanelli has been targeted as an area where volunteers are urgently needed to support the campaign.

Debenhams has helped raise almost £2,500,000 for Help for Heroes since it was started in 2007, and regularly supports the charity with lots of activities throughout the year, including social events for veterans and their families, fundraising events and staff challenges.

During the store’s National Collection weekend, Help for Heroes volunteers sign up to collect at their local store, raising funds and awareness of the life changing support the charity delivers.

Volunteer Abigail Bernard has supported Help for Heroes in Wales since 2016. She says, “I started off as a local volunteer and am now a local coordinator.” Although her family doesn’t have any military links, Abigail says Help for Heroes is the perfect charity for them to support together.

“As a family, we were looking to get involved with some sort of charity and were so impressed by what we heard about Help for Heroes, we felt that it was something that we wanted to be part of.”

Individuals or groups who’d like to sign up and volunteer their time are encouraged to get in touch to find out more on 0300 303 9888 or via email at [email protected]
