Swansea food and drink venues are being inspired to serve up more local produce.

People behind the city’s cafes, bars and restaurants gathered at a special showcase event.

They were joined by tourism businesses eager to increase their local food offer – and met food producers and farmers from around Swansea.

Producers who attended included Gower Cottage Brownies, Coco Bean Wales, Gower Coffee, Farm Co, Little Valley Bakery, Gluten Free Baking, Gower Gin, Pop Cycle, Gower Fudge and Good For You Ferments.

The event, at Ocean View, was organised by the Swansea Bay Tourism and Swansea Rural Development Partnership which is managed by Swansea Council.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “We want to inspire, encourage and empower tourism and hospitality businesses to highlight local produce on their menu.

“It’s important that they’re given every opportunity to promote the unique qualities of our local communities, to showcase our food heritage and to champion our food heroes.”

Tourism Swansea Bay chair Stephen Crocker said: “Serving Welsh food to people visiting Swansea will create a visible food platform, adding value to Swansea’s hospitality and tourism sector.

“It was good that those in the hospitality or tourism sector in Swansea came along to meet the producers – it could help grow their business.”

The event was designed in partnership with Howel Food Consultancy, Swansea Food Partnership, Tourism Swansea Bay, Swansea Food Circle, Cywain, Swansea Council, Swansea Bay Fisheries Local Action Group and Swansea Rural Development Partnership. It is being funded by land-based industry specialist Lantra through the scheme Wales. A Food Destination.
