Why we’re looking forward to the Green Man Festival

How would you like to get lost in the heart of the Brecon Beacons? One of, if not the, most stunning settings for a music festival in the UK, Green Man is the topmost enchanting option on the festival circuit. Taking place between the 20th and the 23rd of August, there is as good a chance as any that you will get some sun in Wales!

The origins and features of Green Man Festival

The festival started in 2003 and since then has garnered a reputation as one of the most consistent and intimate festivals on the UK circuit. Located in the lush foothills of the Brecon Beacons, its vibrant green surroundings suit the name.

Green Man is one of the best alternative music festivals. It normally attracts a mixture of established and cutting-edge acts from the Indie and Folk scene, so don’t be surprised to see a few legends on the bill. It’s not the biggest festival, so it is easy to cover all the ground and it is perfect if you are looking for a relaxing time.

    The festival’s headliners and acts

This year’s main acts are Michael Kiwanuka, Mac Demarco, Caribou, and Little Dragon. Kiwanuka returns after wowing the audience at the festival in 2011. Demarco brings his laid-back Canadian-groove to the stage, off the back of 2019’s ‘Here Comes the Cowboy’. Also hailing from Canada, Caribou will take the reins and play tracks from his upcoming fifth album, and Little Dragon will provide one of the highlights, with a touch of magic and Swedish electronica.

The festival also boasts a wide variety of acts including comedy, talks and readings from writers, as well as areas for massage, yoga, and wellbeing. So, if you would like to indulge in other things than music, then there is something for you as well. The line-up for Comedy and Literature are still yet to be announced, but judging from previous years are bound to be of the highest quality.

Some of the highlights lower down the bill include the spellbinding ‘This is the Kit’, and the peculiar and eccentric Richard Dawson, who is bound to put on a memorable and, at times, comedic set. The psychedelic, web spinner Ty Segall is bound to take you on epic journey. Or, if you want to dance, acts like Thundercat and Goldfrapp are guaranteed to get you going. Of course, be sure to see Wales’ own Gruff Rhys as the former Super Furry Animal graces the stage on home turf.

A great variety of Scenic Music Festivals

Although London is the city with the greatest offers for festivals in all fields, not just in music but gaming, art, food and culture, Wales hosts one of the best music events with the Green Man Festival. It proves that there is plenty to be found by branching out and really taking in what is on offer!

Most people that live outside of London will know that the real gems on the festival scene are tucked away in the many beautiful corners of the UK, and Green Man is one of them. It might not be of the same scale and renown as Glastonbury and Reading, but it does what it does very, very well. It’s simple, it provides a superb line-up from start to finish, and it is just one of the many fantastic events on offer across Wales this year.

With tickets at £195 for adults, it is a reasonably priced festival when you consider the tapestry of interesting live acts and events it offers over the weekend! Most punters camp, but there are options for more luxury accommodation like luxury bell tents, live-in vehicles, and van parking. You will find you have choices to make in parts of the festival, but that’s not a bad problem to have. There is also a good chance that you may find out why it is so ‘green’, so an umbrella and a pair of wellies are necessary!
