Older people’s charity, Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, continues its long-standing commitment to supporting vulnerable and isolated older people living in our communities amidst the coronavirus outbreak.

The small charity is working hard to reach out not only to the 948 vulnerable older people identified on its database, but also the many more who are now making contact every day asking for support. With so many people wanting to help – Age Connects is asking people and businesses to make much needed donations to support their work at this demanding time.

Visit the charity website or the following link to show support: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/helpushelp

Jeff Hawkins, the charity CEO explains “We are following official guidelines and advice and consequently, all of our public offices which serve older people have been closed and staff are advised to work from home where possible to reduce risks to themselves and those around them. Our limited resources are now focused on maintaining telephone contact with the hundreds of older people on our charity database identified as being most in need. We estimate this number to be 948 older people living within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Our staff and volunteers will be working hard to make calls to see if assistance is needed with shopping etc. and to offer reassurance, social contact and support”.

The charity shares that in this worrying and anxious time for all, the community spirit being shown is heart-warming to see. Age Connects urges that if you or an organisation you work for want to show support for its on-going work at this time, then please make a donation and help them reach out and ensure that older people living in our local communities do not feel alone and stay safe and well during this unsettling time.
