With confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Caerphilly area, the council are following steps similar to other councils and will be making a number of changes to its services.

The council continues to follow official advice from key agencies such as Welsh Government and Public Health Wales.

In a statement on the Caerphilly Council website, a spokesperson has said:

“The health and wellbeing of our loyal customers remains our utmost priority during this period of rising concern relating to the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak.

“In recent weeks, we have taken a number of precautionary measures to ensure we can provide a safe environment for sport and physical activity. However, due to the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) and updated Public Health Wales guidelines – we are now making the decision to close all of our leisure centre facilities at 3:30pm on Friday 20th March, for the foreseeable future. This is not a decision we are taking lightly but at this time our user’s safety must be the priority.

“In view of this decision to close our leisure centres, we would like to reassure our customers that there will be no Direct Debit deduction or collection for Memberships or Swimming Lessons on the 1st April.  Cash monthly subscriptions will be appropriately extended upon return. We thank you for your continued support.”
