National Dance Company Wales are inviting audiences and families to take part in their celebrations for International Families Day on Wednesday 6 May with a dedicated fun family class, Discover Dance, which is all around rugby and dance movement, with an opportunity to watch NDCWales’ rugby inspired dance piece, Rygbi: Annwyl i Mi/Dear To Me on 7 May.

Every Wednesday NDCWales has been broadcasting workshops and classes for young people on its social media channel based on NDCWales productions. On Wednesday 6 May families will be encouraged to get up and dance for International Families Day with a special pre-recorded broadcast of a Discover Dance class. Over the last 5 years Discover Dance has been the ideal introduction to dance for young people, as well as grown-ups. These sessions have been run for schools and families across Wales and the UK. The 45-minute sessions will get families moving from their living rooms or gardens; first with a warmup, then an opportunity for young people to learn to dance like a professional NDCWales dancer. The dancers will teach some easy and fun movements from the rugby inspired dance piece, Annwyl I Mi/Dear to Me.

Created by NDCWales’ Artistic Director, Fearghus Ó Conchúir, Annywl i Mi/ Dear To Me is about the passion of rugby, the people and the community who support the game on and off the pitch.

Discover Dance will be broadcast on YouTube and Facebook from 6 May at 11am.

Following the Discover Dance class families will be able to watch the full version of Annwyl I Mi/ Dear to Me on Thursday 7 May 7pm on NDCWales’ YouTube and Facebook channel. The broadcast was filmed at the National Eisteddfod in 2019,  before it went to Japan at the same time as the Rugby World Cup.

If you miss the broadcast times this week and previously, NDCWales will be hosting all the video content on its website and YouTube channel to watch again at any time.

The week-long events are part of National Dance Company Wales’ online digital programme, KiN: Connected, which was launched last month with a desire to create a community for dance online with audiences, participants and the sector.
