UKTV Play has mapped the filming locations of some of the UK’s most loved TV shows- and how you can visit them from the comfort of your own home.
The map is a lockdown-friendly tour of iconic locations from some of the nation’s favourite TV shows from EastEnders to Only Fools and Horses.
1. Gavin and Stacey – Barry, Wales
The British comedy written by James Corden and Ruth Jones ran for three series and was set largely in the Welsh town of Barry. You can explore the street of Stacey and Gwen’s house here as well as Doris and Uncle Bryn’s just a few houses away.
2. Open All Hours – Balby, Doncaster
The hit 1970’s sitcom starring David Jason was set in Balby in Doncaster and many of the exterior shots were actually filmed in the South Yorkshire town. You can view the location on Google maps here.
3. Last of The Summer Wine – Holmfirth, Huddersfield
The sitcom written by Roy Clarke was originally broadcast from 1970-2010. It was set and filmed in Holfirm, West Yorkshire. Fans of the show can explore the different filming locations across the town here.
4. Keeping Up Appearances – Binley Wood, Coventry
Another sitcom by Roy Clarke, Keeping Up Appearances is mentioned on the map. The British classic features Hyacinth Bucket as a middle-class social climber and was filmed in Warwickshire and Coventry. You can explore some of the exterior shots that were used here.
5. The Vicar of Dibley – Turville, High Wycombe
Although the sitcom is set in a small village in Oxfordshire, it’s actually filmed in the small village of Turville, in Buckinghamshire near High Wycombe. The location has been widely used in British TV with other shows such as Midsomer Murders and Goodnight Mister Tom filming there too. 6. Casualty – Bristol
Although Casualty is set in the fictional county of Wyvern, it has actually been filmed in Bristol for over 25 years before moving to Cardiff in 2009. Exterior shots of the hospital were filmed at The Ashley Down Centre, in Bristol. You can explore the exterior locations used in Casualty here.
7. Monarch Of The Glen – Newtonmore, Scotland
The drama series which ran from 2000-05 was set in the Scottish Highlands and was filmed on location at Newtonmore, Scotland. You can view live webcams of Newtonmore here and feel just like you’re on the croft yourself.
8. Poldark – Charlestown, Cornwall
Poldark used many locations across the great landscape of Cornwall to film the series. However one of the main locations was Charlestown. Charlestown near St Austell, famed for its collection of ships and traditional look stood in for Cornwall’s city of Truro in the series. You can visit Charlestown via a live webcam here.
9. Broadchurch – Littlebreedy, Dorset
Although the series starring David Tennant and Olivia Coleman was set in the fictional town of Broadchurch, Dorset. It was actually filmed in and around the small village of Littlebredy in Dorset. You can view the main filming locations including the real Axehampton House via maps here.
10. Birds of a Feather – Buckinghamshire
Although the show which first ran from 1989-98 was set in Chigwell, Essex, exterior shots for ‘Dalentrace’ were filmed on location in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. You can explore the town used on the show on Google maps here.
