Swansea BID to help city centre businesses re-open

With businesses across Swansea City Centre making plans to re-open to the public, Swansea BID (Business Improvement District) is supplying PPE packs and hand sanitiser to its businesses, as a thank you gesture, to help them hit the ground running.

Swansea BID has teamed up with Cygnet Distillery, located the heart of the City Centre, in York Street, to provide the distillery’s CYG80 products; which will support firms with the extra hygiene measures they are taking to enable them to re-open safely.

Russell Greenslade, Chief Executive of Swansea BID (Business Improvement District) says: “We are pleased to see our BID area businesses starting to prepare for re-opening when they are told they can, and we are proud of the way they have responded to the coronavirus crisis, by observing the official guidance and by, in many cases, pivoting or stepping up their operations to respond to the situation. Cygnet Distillery is just one great example of the kind of selflessness we have seen from our BID businesses in the past few months.

“Here at Swansea BID we have been working hard to support our BID area business with the most current legal, Government, and health and safely guidance, as well as ensuring our businesses are tapping into the financial support on offer to them. We are confident that our City Centre will find its stride quickly and we know our businesses will do everything they can to give their customers and clients the confidence to return to their usual routines.  Swansea City Centre has a great future and I would encourage everyone to make plans to come back here to support their local business when they are allowed to do so.”

Dai Wakely, Master Distiller from Cygnet Distillery, said: “The coronavirus crisis has affected all of us very deeply, and we were determined to do something concrete to help. So we launched CYG80, an 80 percent alcohol-based hand rub sanitiser approved by the World Health Organisation, in order to support the NHS, key and front-line industries at the time they needed it most. We are so pleased, and incredibly proud to see these products being used to help get our own City Centre up and running again, when the time is right.”

Last week, the UWTSD (University of Wales Trinity Saint David) stepped up to support Swansea BID to provide PPE equipment too, with the College of Art supplying 500 visors for distribution amongst shops and organisations in the City Centre.
