Can you tell it’s summer yet? What about now? Today will be the hottest day of a week-long heatwave that has struck Wales.
As temperature hit nearly 30 °C in some parts of Wales, we take a quick look at what this incredible country has to offer in the sun. The longest day of the year has recently passed by but we are certainly making up for lost time with this epic heat! According to the Met Office the mercury will top out at 24 °C in Llandudno, Swansea will bake in 25 °C heat, Aberystwyth will be practically scorching at 26 °C and the capital Cardiff will be on fire; seeing a top temperature of 28 °C.

Whether you are a beach-goer, mountain-climber, taff-trailer or even a high seas captain – Wales has something to offer everyone on a lovely day like today. Maybe leave the mountain until another day as it’s best to not exert yourself too much with temperatures on the increase.
The beach-goer
Where do we start? Barry Island? Colwyn Bay? Rhossili Bay? Three Cliffs Bay? It’s safe to say that Wales is literally surrounded by beautiful coastline. Have you ever explored the Wales Coast Path? If you haven’t then there is no better day than today. Just make sure you apply the sunscreen. The Wales Coast Path was developed by the Welsh Government in partnership with Natural Resources Wales and is a fantastic addition to the Welsh coastline.
The Taff-trailer
The heat is not for everyone, so why not take shelter on some of the more secluded parts of the Taff Trail. This is a popular walking and cycle path that runs for 55 miles between Brecon in Powys all the way down to Cardiff Bay following the River Taff. Can you guess why it’s called the Taff Trail? The path is maintained in part by Sustrans; a sustainable transport charity as part of the National Cycle Network that runs UK wide.

The high seas captain
If a tranquil setting is more your kind of thing then why not hire a boat on Roath Lake in Cardiff or head to the beautiful victorian pier in Mumbles which stretches out to sea. Better still, why not head to a zoo on the beach. Okay – it’s not quite on the beach but it’s close enough. This is the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay, Conwy in North Wales.
