The family-favourite Welsh Mining Experience at Rhondda Heritage Park is to reopen to the public on Tuesday 28th July in line with Welsh Government guidance for underground attractions.

During the period of closure RCT Council and staff at the Welsh Mining Experience have been working behind the scenes to ensure social distancing can be maintained for visitors within a safe environment.

To certify this the Welsh Mining Experience has been awarded the Visit Wales “We’re Good to Go” accreditation.  This means there are processes in place to maintain cleanliness and social distancing as per Government guidelines and to expected standards.

The Café Bracchi and award-winners The Chocolate House, will both be open from Tuesday 28 July for tasty treats and delicious meals, with the wonderful Craft of Hearts reopening on 3 August.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services said: “I am so pleased that we are able to reopen the Welsh Mining Experience at Rhondda Heritage Park to the public once again.

“Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and staff at the Welsh Mining Experience have been working hard to ensure that the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained at this wonderful attraction, and that social distancing measures are in place so we can welcome visitors back safely.

“The Visit Wales “We’re Good to Go” accreditation that has been awarded to Welsh Mining Experience should provide visitors with peace of mind that government guidelines are being implemented and cleanliness is maintained throughout the site.

“The Black Gold Underground Guided Tour is a fantastic addition to any day, and will be a welcome break to parents who have been home-schooling, while providing an immersive educational experience for children. I know for sure our knowledgeable and entertaining ex-miner guides are looking forward to guiding you deep underground, before you finish on DRAM!

“We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible back at the Welsh Mining Experience over the summer holidays!”

To ensure safety and social-distancing when at the Welsh Mining Experience, there are some changes that visitors are advised of before they arrive.

Exhibitions remain free and open to all, however, some interactive areas have been temporarily removed for your safety, and The Energy Zone play area remains closed for the time being.

Bookings for the Black Gold Underground Experience Tour are limited to one extended family group per tour with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum number of 8. There are 3 tours a day at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

The Welsh Mining Experience is a great place for all the family to enjoy, with our tours suitable for all ages, and offers an immersive educational experience for everyone having been awarded the Sandford Award for educational excellence.

The Welsh Mining Experience is also proud to be autism friendly and tours are wheelchair friendly, guide/assistance dogs are also welcome.

Book your tour call 01443 682036.

There’s no need to book to visit the exhibitions.
