Two people have been charged following a disturbance in Barry on Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to a domestic incident on Main Street shortly after 5pm.
The first officer on scene had cause to discharge a Taser after two people failed to comply with instructions and attempts at intervention. A man and woman have now been charged.
Kyle Anthony Butts, 35, from Barry has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and using threatening and abusive behaviour.
Leanne Perrett, 35, also from Barry has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and attempted theft.
Both have been released on police bail and are due to appear in Cardiff Magistrates Court on September 11.
Chief Inspector for Barry, Tony Williams said: “The officer involved in this incident dealt with an extremely difficult situation, single crewed, remarkably well.
“He was faced with extreme provocation and violence. He was fearless and showed great tactical competence and skill.
“In addition, I want to thank the security guard who came to the aid of the officer.”

“The presence of Taser alone is often enough to calm an offender or someone in crisis, and in the vast majority of Taser-authorised incidents, it is not actually discharged.”
