Activity Wales Events kicks off season with Mumbles Duathlon in Swansea

Sporting specialist Activity Wales Events kicks off its season this weekend with the Mumbles Duathlon, featuring flat, scenic routes and a bike course that takes in the Gower Peninsula.

From fitness newbies looking for their first event, to dedicated athletes keen to challenge themselves, there’s something for everyone on Activity Wales Events calendar. Entries are open for its range of wonderfully scenic sporting adventures including the largest multi-sport festival in Europe, Long Course Weekend Wales, an epic multi-discipline event based on the principals of triathlon but offering a range of swimming, cycling, running distances that athletes can mix and match to suit them.

11th May 2024 – Mumbles Triathlon
Middle: 1.9k swim/90k bike/21k run
Sprint: 750m swim/32k bike/5k run 
The Mumbles Tri is a great early season event with two distances on offer. An amazing sprint tri and an early season middle distance tri. Enjoy an incredible start entering the sheltered Mumbles Bay, followed by a rewarding bike route heading out into the Gower Peninsula, concluding with a flat and scenic run. Both distances enjoy the famous red carpet finish line.
25th May 2024 – Swansea Swim
3k / 1.9k / 750m
Located in the safe, clean and sheltered waters of the Prince of Wales Dock, Swansea, this event is an ideal opportunity to swim in the heart of the city.
Athletes can choose from a variety of distances to suit their interests, abilities or training needs. With the incredible city atmosphere and bonus of calm waters, it is great introduction for beginners and chance for athletes to test their swim without the worry of the bike and run.
Younger athletes are able to give open water swimming events a go as the 750m distance is open to participants aged 14+ and the 1.9k and 3k distances are both open to ages 16+. Swansea Swim, takes place the day before the Swansea Triathlon.
26th May 2024 – Swansea Triathlon
Sprint: 750m / 20k bike / 5k run
Be part of the sprint distance triathlon in this iconic Welsh city. The event is open to both adults and children aged 14 and over. A world-class event, with a world-class atmosphere, this is a popular event that sells out quickly year on year.
26th May 2024 – Swansea 5k
Be part of the Swansea 5k. Fast and flat with a view of the picturesque Swansea Bay. The event is open to adults and children from 11 years and up. A fast and scenic course with a finish line like no other 5k.
9th June 2024 – Challenge Wales 
1.2 mile swim / 56 mile bike / 13.1 mile run
Winner of the 220 triathlon awards for best triathlon, Challenge Wales takes place in Britain’s only Coastal National Park and has a unique atmosphere with closed roads and incredible start and finish lines.
Each year top British athletes join hundreds of participants of all ages from across the globe to take on the scenic course. Challenge Wales is known for its spectacular Pembrokeshire course with a sheltered swim, fully closed roads on the bike course and a breath-taking coastal run.
9th June 2024 – Fishguard Triathlon
Sprint: 750m swim / 30 mile bike /  3 mile run
The Fishguard Sprint Triathlon will take place in Fishguard, Pembrokeshire and offers a fast course set in an incredible location.
 
21st – 23rd June 2024 – Long Course Weekend Wales
The Wales Swim: 2.4 miles / 1.2 miles
Wales Sportive: 112 miles / 70 miles / 42 miles
Wales Run: Marathon / Half Marathon / 10k / 5k

The biggest multi-sport event in Europe, Long Course Weekend Wales set on the west coast of Wales in Pembrokeshire, is a truly unique festival of sport. It attracts over 11,000 athletes, 35,000 supporters from 56 nations, to compete over three incredible days. Athletes are invited to make the weekend their own by mixing and matching the distances that suit them across three events or go long in each to get the coveted 4th medal.
The weekend kicks off with The Wales Swim on Friday, one of the largest open-water swimming events in the UK. Saturday sees thousands of cyclists take on a choice of 112 mile, 70 mile or 42 mile courses set in the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Rounding off the weekend on Sunday is The Wales Marathon, The Wales Half Marathon, The Wales 10k and The Wales 5k all finishing with massive crowds back in Tenby.
The Long Course Weekend is the perfect event format for athletes of all abilities. For beginners a great introduction and for the more experienced a challenge like no other. Plus, Long Course Kinder sees kids take part in their very own amazing event. Tackling a surf run and then a run across the beach to the huge crowds at the finish line, an event to inspire all budding young athletes.
13th July 2024 – Wales Swimrun
Full distance: Swim 7k / Run 26k
Sprint distance: Swim 4.7k / Run 14k
Taking place along the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park this event has everything – an amazing location, blue flag beaches, being tied to a team-mate! Now with a new sprint distance perfect for first-timers.
20th September 2024 – Saundersfoot Triathlon  
Sprint: 750m swim / 20k bike / 5k run
This event provides a great sprint distance for athletes for all abilities. Ideal for those seeking a race with an enclosed stunning sea swim; sea views, fantastic village support, topped off with one of the most breathtaking scenic runs.
 
6th – 8th September 2024 – Long Course Weekend Yorkshire

Yorkshire Dales Swim: 2.4 miles / 1.2 miles
Dales sportive: 112 miles / 56 miles
Yorkshire Dales Run: Marathon / Half Marathon / 10k / 5k
Full Long Course: Swim: 2.4 miles / Bike: 112 miles / Run: Marathon 

Set in Masham on the outskirts of Nidderdale Area of Outstanding National Beauty, the first Long Course Weekend in England is expected to bring athletes from across the globe to compete over three incredible days of world-class sport.

Featuring the unique LCW format, athletes can choose their own challenge by selecting their preferred disciplines and distances for the weekend. Friday kicks off with the 1.2 or 2.4 mile Yorkshire Dales Swim, offering the unique opportunity to swim in the stunning Grimwith Reservoir, deep in the Yorkshire Dales. Saturday will see cyclists participate in the Yorkshire Dales Sportive.  Starting from Masham Market Square, the 56 or 112 mile bike courses set in The Yorkshire Dales National Park incorporate some of the sections in Tour de Yorkshire, Tour De France, and UCI courses.

The weekend finishes on the Sunday, with the choice of a Marathon, Half Marathon,10k or 5k taking in some spectacular countryside and ending in Masham with a red-carpet finish line.

Those completing the longest distance in the swim, bike and run receive the coveted 4th medal!
