Adventure Travel supports Cardiff vaccination rollout with additional services

Adventure Travel, formerly known as NAT Group, has introduced additional services to support the new Bayside Mass Vaccination Centre on the former Toys R Us site in Cardiff Bay.

Bayside, which opened its doors last week, is situated in the International Sports Village and is serving residents living in Cardiff and the eastern part of Vale of Glamorgan. It is the fourth vaccination hub for the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, adding to existing sites in Splott, Pentwyn and Barry.

To allow residents to access the vaccination centre sustainably and easily, while helping to ease traffic congestion in the area, Adventure Travel is running four extra buses alongside its existing 89 and 304 services. The 303 and 304 services, which usually run every two hours, will now operate hourly and a new two hourly service on the 89a and 89b (combined as hourly) will run on Sundays.

The vaccination centre opened on Thursday, March 25, and has the capacity to complete around 4,000 vaccinations each day.

Adam Keen, Managing Director of Adventure Travel, said: “These new journeys have been made possible as a result of a close partnership working with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, and financial assistance through the ‘BES’ (Bus Emergency Subsidy) fund. We are extremely pleased to be part of the solution for enabling the people of South Wales to get to their vaccination appointments in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way, without cluttering up the roads unnecessarily with private cars.”

Andrew Eccleshare, Vale of Glamorgan Council Passenger Transport Manager, said: “Increasing these services will make it easier for residents to visit the Bayside Mass Vaccination Centre and it is just one example of how the Council is supporting the regional response to Covid-19.  A close partnership between the Council and Adventure Travel has made this possible, with different agencies working together for the benefit of the community.”
