    All-Inclusive Accessibility Playground Celebrates Opening in Ruthin

    The playground in Cae Ddôl, Ruthin, reopened to the public following works to replace the old equipment as part of an Accessible Play Area Provision project.

    Denbighshire County Council’s Accessible Play Area Provision received £300,000 from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity fund to deliver accessible play provision within the County.

    Working with KOMPAN UK Ltd, the Council consulted with local residents and members to create a design that would be inclusive, accessible and exciting. As a result, it was decided that given its close proximity to Ruthin Castle, the play area would follow a similar medieval castle theme with a playful twist.

    The newly installed environmentally friendly equipment is designed with children of all abilities in mind. With the introduction of an inclusive swing seat, kaleidoscope visual sensory boards and springers and seesaws with fully supportive back and footrests, it provides a safe space for children with differing physical abilities and neurodiversity to play comfortably. Additionally, the project also included the installation of an additional junior play area next to the skate park.

    Following the completion of the work a ceremonial opening of the play area was held to recognise its conclusion.

    Councillor Barry Mellor, Lead Member for Environment and Transport said:

    “I am delighted to see that works to complete this play park has finished. It is important that all children, no matter what their abilities, have the freedom to be able to use public play areas. This is a tremendous achievement, and it is a big step in the right direction to ensure that we as a Council can provide accessible play for residents within the County”.
