Swansea is flying the flag on Armed Forces Day later this month to honour those who serve, our veterans and their families.

A special commemoration event is taking place on June 22 outside Guildhall at 2pm, hosted by Lord Mayor Cllr Penny Matthews which is being attended by veterans groups, serving members of the armed forces, cadets and local VIPs.

And the council is also organising a free bus service to take veterans, serving military, their families and armed forces personnel to the Wales national Armed Forces Day event at Pembrey on June 27.

That night, Guildhall will also be lit up in honour of our armed forces.

The Armed Forces Day arrangements have been put together in collaboration with Swansea Veterans Hub.

Lord Mayor Cllr Penny Matthews said: “As Lord Mayor, showing our communities’ support for our armed forces and our veterans is something I’m very proud to do, not only on Armed Forces Day but also throughout the year and especially at Remembrance time in November.

“Everyone is welcome to come along for the June 22 event at the Guildhall rotunda where we’ll be raising the armed forces flag which will fly proudly through the rest of the week.”

If you’re a veteran, or serving member of the military and want to be part of the group travelling to Pembrey for the Wales national Armed Forces Day commemorations, please contact the Swansea Veterans Hub for more information and to register for a free bus ticket.(Email: [email protected] /Phone: 07916 227411 or 07894 417590)

Next month’s Wales Airshow will also host a veterans marquee on the seafront where veterans and their families can enjoy the show and learn more about what support is available to them.
