A Gwent-based charity which supports children and young people has strengthened its board of trustees with a duo of new appointments. The charity Sparkle has been transforming the lives of disabled children and young people living in Gwent for more than two decades. Diwrnod Shw’mae Su’mae Day is held on 15 October every year to celebrate the Welsh language and culture. At Cyfarthfa Park in Merthyr Tydfil, the community came together to celebrate this day at their biggest annual event so far. Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council received a £10,000 National Lottery grant to deliver a series of cultural events, including Diwrnod Shw’mae Su’mae Day. Calls are being made for reform to professional learning for teachers in Wales after a survey revealed less than a quarter are paying full attention to online training sessions. In a poll of 203 teachers by education company Impact Wales, only 23% said they were fully focused when accessing online professional learning. Of the remaining 77%, some 39% said they were planning or marking at the same time, while 14% said they were tidying the room. The bird was found beneath a wheelie bin in Gurnos An appeal for information has been launched after a stray lovebird was found beneath a wheelie bin in Gurnos, Merthyr Tydfil. The red and yellow peach-faced lovebird was handed into the RSPCA Merthyr Tydfil veterinary clinic on Monday (23 October) having been found at Lavender Road in the late morning.
