Company bosses in North Wales are being urged to investigate the potential of hydro-electric schemes to generate cheap and reliable green energy. The call came from business leaders who went on a fact finding visit to the community energy organisation, Ynni Ogwen in Bethesda in Gwynedd. A college student from Merthyr has been named joint winner of a nationwide playwriting competition. Emyr Strudwick, a 19-year-old student from The College Merthyr Tydfil, was announced as one of two winners of this year’s New Views programme – the National Theatre’s annual playwriting competition for young people. Emyr’s play, ‘Teulu’ was selected from over 500 submissions from 90 schools across the UK. Emyr will have the opportunity to develop his play, ‘Teulu’ alongside Director of the National Theatre, Rufis Norris as part of the News Views Festival on 4-5 July. City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, is the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital. In addition to providing care and services including welfare advice and complementary therapies to patients with terminal or life limiting illnesses, the charity offers bereavement counselling and support for their families. A primary school in Cardiff, that has been at the forefront of encouraging families to ditch the car, has seen almost one third of its pupils (31%) change how they travel to school since launching its campaign in 2018.
