TOP South Wales ska band Skalet raised money for City Hospice in a charity gig as part of the charity’s Light up a Life appeal. The band raised £2925 which has been generously match funded by the Hodge Foundation to bring the total £5,850. Skalet performed an evening of some of the greatest ska hits at the Earl Haig Club in Whitchurch, with an additional set by DJ Alun Mitchell, organised by City Hospice Ambassador Alastair Milburn. Urdd Gobaith Cymru have confirmed that 70,511 children and young people have competed in 208 of its Local and Regional Eisteddfodau this year – and the area with the highest number of competitors was Meifod, where the 2024 National Urdd Eisteddfod will be held. As well as thanking competitors, teachers, instructors and supporters, the Urdd is also grateful to the 1,664 stewards, 1,040 accompanists and 832 judges who have given their time to ensure the success of these local and regional rounds. The Student Bursary Award 2024 is available to students, from Pembrokeshire, who are currently studying or have been accepted to start their studies. A woman from Carmarthen will be running the ABP Newport Wales Marathon in memory of her father who tragically died while climbing Yr Wydffa (Snowdon). Anwen Davies will also be raising money for Cartrefi Cymru, the learning disability support provider, where her dad volunteered. Her father Ceri, who worked as a vicar in the Church of Wales, was just 57 when he sadly passed away at the summit of Yr Wydffa (Mount Snowdon) in September 2019.
