Arable and beef farmer, Adam Thorne, has been unanimously elected to become the new President of Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society for the year ahead. Adam is the third generation of his family to hold the position. Bridgend County Borough Council have teamed up with well-known charity Crimestoppers and Valleys to Coast Housing to introduce the first ever Crimestoppers Zone in Wales. The zone, located in Wildmill, Bridgend has been introduced to encourage communities to give crime information anonymously and empower everyone to play a role in keeping Bridgend neighbourhoods safe. The RAF’s world-famous Typhoon jet is set to delight crowds at Swansea’s Wales Airshow this summer. Residents are advised that a revised bus network will operate across the County Borough from Monday, April 1 – however, public transport users should experience minimal change to their regular bus journeys. In preparation for the new Welsh Government Bus Network Grant for the 2024/25 financial year, the Council has re-tendered all of its supported bus service contracts. This included tendering any bus services that are socially necessary for communities, that could no longer operate commercially. There will be a road closure in Church Village this week in order to deliver improvement work as part of the Safe Routes in Communities scheme. The scheme got underway earlier this year, using Welsh Government funding to upgrade pedestrian facilities on streets near Llanilltud Faerdref Primary School. A number of changes to local bus services will be introduced in the coming weeks as a result of a shake up to bus funding. From April 2024, the funding which has been provided directly to bus operators by the Welsh Government to keep services going in the wake of the Covid pandemic will cease. Additional funding will instead be provided to Local Authorities to support their local bus network. Ffos Caerffili – Caerphilly town centre’s much-anticipated container style market – will open its doors to the public on Friday 5th April. Construction problems caused by recent periods of heavy rain led to the delay of the planned opening in mid-March, but much work has been done over recent weeks to get the project back on track. Steven Felix, 36, from Brackla, Bridgend, sexually abused a child under the age of 13, from the summer of 2019 to late 2020. Officers received a report of the abuse in May 2021. Following an investigation, he was charged with 24 charges of rape and sexual activity with a child. On Friday, March 22, he was sentenced to 24 years in prison, an additional six-year license order, and a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
